My Oscar Picks 2016

It’s Oscar Day!! Every year my family and I have an Oscar party where we have an pool to see who can guess the most amount of winners, we even have a little Oscar statue that goes to the winner. Along with the travelling Oscar, the winner gets one of the nominated movies to take home. There is also a prize for last place, so it’s not so bad.

Here are my picks:

Best Picture: The Revenant.

I’m picking this one because I’m pretty sure it’s going to win, and I want to win that Oscar back. If I was voting by what movie I liked the best, I would pick Spotlight.

Actor in a Leading Role: Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant

Leo better win this year, and I’m not even saying this because the internet says so, but because he puts so much into every role, he needs to be recognized for it already!

Actress in a Leading Role: Brie Larson – Room

This is Larson’s award to lose, Room was such an amazing movie, and while I loved Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn, Brie Larson is in a class of her own this year!

Actor in a Supporting Role: Sylvester Stallone – Creed

While I am still enraged that Michael Keaton wasn’t nominated for Spotlight (and equally enraged that he didn’t win for Birdman last year), I’m going with Rocky!

Actress in a Supporting Role: Kate Winslet – Steve Jobs

This was a hard category for me to choose for, so I won’t be surprised if I’m wrong. I absolutely loved Kate Winslet, and so did the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. The SAG and Critic Choice awards chose Alicia Vikander (who I’m not entirely sure why she’s in this category, she should have been Best Actress..), so I’m not entirely sure. But I made a call.

Animated Feature Film: Inside Out

Hands down. This movie was amazing!

Cinematography: The Revenant.

Costume Design: Mad Max: Fury Road

I liked the costumes, that’s really all that went into this one.

Directing: The Revenant

Documentary Feature: Amy.

This is not the one I liked the best, but I feel like it’s the one that’s going to win. I personally liked “Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom”, but Amy Winehouse is dearly missed, so I think the nostalgia of the troubled singer will win over the others.

Documentary Short Subject: Body Team 12

Film Editing: The Big Short.

Foreign Language Film: Son of Saul

Makeup and Hairstyling: Max Max: Fury Road

Original Score: The Hateful Eight

Original Song: “Until It Happens to You” – The Hunting Ground

Production Design: Mad Max: Fury Road

Animated Short Film: Bear Story

Live Action Short Film: Shok

Sound Editing: The Revenant

Sound Mixing: The Revenant

Visual Effects: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Adapted Screenplay: The Big Short

Original Screenplay: Spotlight

I can’t wait for the ceremony tonight!
