Song Saturday

Song Saturday – Lavender Blue

Happy Saturday!! Here’s the next installment of SONG SATURDAY!

Today’s song is “Lavender Blue” by Burl Ives. I picked this song today because it’s a song that was always sung to me as a child, and it confused me! Why was it called lavender blue when lavenders are purple?!?! Now this is a question that haunted me for years – I started asking well before Google was a thing and I posed it to everyone I knew, and everyone just told me that they had no idea and it was just a song. I accepted that as an answer until one summer, when I was working as a summer student, I posed it to a co-worker and he told me that when the lavender flower is dying, it turns blue. FINALLY! Unfortunately this song all of a sudden became a sad song to me, but I was happy enough to have my answer that I was willing to move past it.

What song reminds you the most of your childhood? Let me know in the comments!
