Hello everyone! Welcome to a special post over here on Amanda Diaries! Today, I am part of a book tour for a new historical fiction novel called “My MacArthur”, written by Cindy Fazzi. I was lucky enough to be sent a free copy of this novel as part of this book tour, I’ll include more information at the bottom of this post!
But first, let’s talk about this novel.
Cindy Fazzi found inspiration for this novel from the real-life romance between General Douglas MacArthur and a much younger woman from the Philippines named Isabel Rosario Cooper, who also goes by Belle to people close to her and the stage name Dimples.
The novel starts in 1930 with a 50 year old MacArthur falling in love at first sight with the young actress, at least 30 years his junior. Despite his better judgment for his and her reputations, he begins a whirlwind affair with her.
Fazzi takes historical record and weaves in her interpretation of what happened behind closed doors. While there is a fast historical record on General MacArthur, his two marriages and his military career, his relationship with Belle and her history leave quite a bit to the imagination – which she does wonderfully!
Without giving too much of the plot away, My MacArthur follows this May-December romance that basically takes over Belle’s life. MacArthur makes her his mistress and we follow along as her life completely changes as she knows it, revolving around the General’s schedule, rules and his desires. Belle follows him from Manilla to Washington (which is part of historical fact) and we join Belle through her highs and lows, until her tragic end.
