Christmas Around the World : Brazil

Hello everyone! I’ve been a little MIA on the blog as we’ve had a big life update – we homeschool now! We made the decision to pull G out of public school at Christmas break last school year and have been homeschooling ever since! I’ve been busy but I’m excited to start sharing our journey with all of you! Watch for activities, worksheets, ideas and more!

G absolutely loves Christmas, and has been asking up to put up our tree since July (soon bud!) and we decided to do a few countries for Christmas Around the World.

Inspired by this post on Homeschool Giveaways (check out this post for plenty of links and ideas!), and by these worksheets/blog tour on 123Homeschool4Me – head there for a great set of printables for several countries!

Here’s what we did:

Our plan was that for a week, we would spend a portion of the homeschool session

– discussing Brazil (video), found it on our world map and talked about the distance from us to Rio De Janeiro.

– Christmas traditions (video)

– learning seasonal words in Brazilian Portuguese (video)

– listening to Christmas songs we knew well in Brazilian Portuguese, such as Jingle Bell and comparing to the English lyrics.

We also discussed an animal found in Brazil – the Pink River Dolphin! We watched a few videos on them and compared them to Ocean Dolphins.

– Video 1 Facts: The Pink River Dolphin (Amazon River Dolphin)

– Video 2 Pink Dolphins? | Weird Nature

We also made Biscoito de Maizena (Cornstarch Cookies) – Recipe by Cookie Dough Diaries (Gluten Free)

We also completed a worksheet for Brazil from 123Homeschool4Me . check out this blog for more information!

We had so much fun learning about Brazil and the country’s Christmas traditions! What would you add?

Until next time,

Amanda xo
