Pick Me Up Playlist

Hello! Today I will be bringing you a post that I was tagged in around Christmas, but I already had all of my content written and scheduled, so I decided to hold onto it until the New Year! I was tagged in the Pick me Up Playlist Tag by the wonderful Britt over at Alternatively Speaking!

Rules:

  1. Link back to ‘Pick Me Up Playlist’ creator – Laura Spoonie
  2. Tag the blogger who nominated you – Alternatively Speaking
  3. Mention how music helps your Mental Health
  4. List 10 songs that you would consider to be a part of your ‘Pick Me Up Playlist’ (optional: mention a little bit why each song is on your list)
  5. Tag 10 other bloggers to join in with the ‘Pick Me Up Playlist’ Challenge

*If you’re nominated for this TAG don’t’ feel compelled to take part, it’s just to spread some joy and positivity*

What music means to me and how it has helped my mental health:

Like many people, music has been a major part of my life, from our nightly family dance parties growing up, to participating in air band competitions with my friends, to playing the clarinet and bass clarinet in symphonic band in junior high and high school, and now lullabies and nursery rhymes being sung to G on the daily – I love music! When I’m having an off day, sometimes all it takes is putting on an 80’s rock playlist (or even the movie Rock of Ages) and it’ll instantly lift my spirits. I also have a few nostalgic songs that I listen to often (and some I avoid because the memory hurts to much) and I’ll be honest, nothing that has come out recently has made it into any of my feel good playlists!

My Pick Me Up Playlist

Now Britt did hers as a Christmas list, but seeing we are out of the season for it I will just do my top 10 songs that always make me feel great!

1. Living on a Prayer – Bon Jovi

This song makes me think of my Thompson friends 100%, if this song comes on when we’re together, you have to stop what you’re doing and you better be belting the words out – because it’s AMAZING!

2. Rainbow Connection – The Muppets

I don’t really have a real reason why this is on my feel-good list, but I love singing this one to G, and you really can’t go wrong with anything Muppet related!

3. Everything is Awesome – Tegan and Sara ft. The Lonely Island

You’re going to notice a trend of soundtrack and “kid” songs in this list – when the LEGO movie came out, my friends and I went to the late showing in Winnipeg the night before a couple of us went to Ireland, and it basically became the “theme song” of our trip. My niece was also super obsessed with this song and sang it all the time, and G loves it now too!

4. Bye, Bye, Bye – NSYNC

Anything Boy Band related is pretty much a win in my books, NSYNC? YES! Backstreet Boys? OH HECK YES! Hanson? BRING IT! So I basically just picked one of the many songs I could put on here, so just listen and enjoy!

5. Sound of Silence – Disturbed

Alright, this song is AMAZING is all forms, so you can go listen to the rest of them here but there is something about this version that I just LOVE, so just listen and feel it!

6. Belle – Beauty and the Beast Soundtrack

Beauty and the Beast is hands down one of my favourite movies and I spent most of G’s colicky period by singing him songs from this movie. I basically wanted to be Belle when I was little, and working in a library was probably the closet I ever got!

7. Take me Home Tonight – Eddie Money

This song makes me think of Jared, when we first started dating, he used to sing this song all the time, and I of course love listening to it!

8. Bellas Final Performance – Pitch Perfect

My Dad started HATING this movie after a while because it was always on, and my sister and I were always singing the songs to my niece, to the point where I think he was happy when I moved out and the movie left with me! So I had to put one of the Bellas songs on this list, so I picked their final performance from the first movie

9. Wannabe – Spice Girls

Who else’s life was transformed when the Spice Girls busted onto the scene?! I know for a fact it wasn’t just mine! Basically the Spice Girls fall into the same category as boy bands – never will be denied!

10. Hella Good – No Doubt

I will tell you flat out – No Doubt was an AMAZING concert that has only been rivaled by Red Hot Chili Peppers in my mind, Gwen Stefani is a GODDESS (and 100% my girl crush) I am seriously still mourning her split from Gavin Rossdale. You can’t go wrong with this jam!

Alright! There’s my 10! I can’t think of anyone to tag for this at the moment, but if you want to take part, don’t forget to tag me so I can read it!

Until next time,
